As the company’s second dedicated electric vehicle for Europe, this model borrows its design cues from the European-market Honda HR-V. However, it discards the retro aesthetic for a contemporary, clean look, appearing much like the e:NS1 and e:NP1 SUVs offered in China through Honda’s partnerships with Dongfeng and GAC respectively.

The e:Ny1’s design displays a clear connection to the Honda HR-V, offering a modernized and more stylish take on the SUV category. Its grille is blanked-off, and the front bumper has been simplified, presumably to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics. Notably, the vehicle features white Honda badges, indicating its electric nature – a fresh branding initiative from Honda.

Interior and Tech Features

While the exterior design draws inspiration from the HR-V, the e:Ny1’s interior is a striking departure. The cabin is dominated by a 15.1-inch vertically oriented touchscreen, which manages nearly all functions. As for tech features, the e:Ny1 is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster alongside the large touchscreen. The media setup supports Honda’s native software, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto simultaneously, a feature not commonly found in other systems. The bottom section of the screen is dedicated to climate controls, replacing the tactile rotary switches found in the HR-V.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the new Honda e:Ny1 houses a 201-horsepower electric motor that channels 229 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. This power setup is on par with other models in the European market. The motor is powered by a 68.8-kWh lithium-ion battery, which is projected to provide 256 miles of range under Europe’s WLTP test cycle.

The vehicle’s performance is equally promising. Honda claims the e:Ny1 can go from 0 to 62mph in 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 99mph. The SUV also supports DC fast charging, which can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 45 minutes. In terms of driving modes, Honda offers three levels of regenerative braking, alongside Eco, Normal, and Sport modes to cater to different driving conditions and preferences.

Pricing and Launch Date

The e:Ny1 is poised to disrupt the compact electric SUV segment when it launches later this year. With an expected price tag of around £45,000, it promises to offer excellent value for money. The generous list of standard equipment is likely to include features such as 18-inch alloy wheels and the expansive infotainment screen.

The e:Ny1 won’t be making its way to the United States, as Honda has teamed up with General Motors to focus on the American-market EVs. However, in Europe, Honda aims to achieve more success with the e:Ny1, following the Honda e’s underwhelming sales performance in its first two years on the market.
