2023 Volkswagen Touareg Facelift – the Revival of VW Top SUV

June 25, 2022 by Anthony McGirr

2023 Volkswagen Touareg Facelift – The Volkswagen Touareg will return! According to the official announcement from VW, they are planning to bring back their flagship SUV, Touareg, to the market. After this series left the North American market several years ago, we never heard any information about the re-entering plan for this series. However, this time it will be only the 2023 Volkswagen Touareg Facelift. Here is the information we have this far.

2023 Volkswagen Touareg Specifications

2023 Volkswagen Touareg facelift

We already got the spy photo of the test version of this new release. However, we couldn’t see the clear appearance of this new facelift version. Volkswagen uses a very clever method to cover the body of this new model with camouflage paint. They know where to put the sticker and camouflage pattern. All new features or changes to its exterior accent are perfectly covered. We also see VW applied this new camouflage method on other models. And, it is very effective to keep our training eyes to see what kind of new features or elements that you can find on the new car. But, we don’t give up because of this clever camouflage pattern. We keep comparing the old 2018 release with this new facelift version. And then, we found many changes on several parts of its exterior.

The Design

Among many of its changes, here is the most visible one. We see the grille part has changed a bit. The new grille dimension and shape seem to decrease and get smaller compared to the original 2018 model. The lower corner part is shorter than the old model. You can’t see this part stretch under the headlights anymore. It feels more compact, yet doesn’t leave the trademark of Volkswagen Touareg.

The lights, especially the headlights, could have some changes because it was covered perfectly with the sticker. It is like VW trying to hide something under it. However, the overall shape is not that different from the original 2018 Touareg. We also found out that the lower fascia has some modifications on the size of the vent on each corner.

2023 Volkswagen Touareg redesign

The size is slightly larger than before. Moreover, the shape also has some kind of arched shape on the top of the vent hole. It will change the whole vibe of the front side, if it does change, though. As for the rear side, we haven’t seen any significant change. However, we assume that the taillight could be a new model because of the new production step. We also can’t find any clear image of its interior. The spy photo we have doesn’t capture the interior that clearly. It could have minor changes knowing its facelift concept.

Performance and Features

Because it is a facelift model, we are not expecting major changes in the specification, performance, and features. We guess that VW will keep the interior features, such as the 15-inches touch screen infotainment system, the 12.3-inch digital dashboard for the driver, and Wireless CarPlay most likely will be added to Touareg, knowing all VW models already have this feature.

As for the powertrain and engine, it most likely is the same. Some predict that VW will provide an EV model for this new series. However, it will need a different frame and chassis than the original 2018 Touareg. So, it is a low chance for this new system. You can always reference the previous model for its performance.

Price and Release Date of 2023 VW Touareg Facelift

Knowing the test car has been revealed, we assume they have finished the production and entered the finalization. So, the release date could be early 2023, with the official launch in late 2022. As for the price, it might be the same as the 2018 model. But we expect the 2023 Volkswagen Touareg Facelift have a higher price than the old model because of the concept.
